It is must to prepare the consolidated accounts of both. To prepare the consolidated accounts of the head office, the branch trial balance is incorporated in the books of the Head Office. The Incorporation of Trial Balance means the recording or transfer of all assets, liabilities, income and expenses of the branch to the final accounts of the Head Office. There are two ways of Incorporation of Branch Trial Balance in the books of Head Office:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">METHOD 1: DETAILED INCORPORATION<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Under this method, incorporation is done in such a way that\nthe head office is in a position to prepare branch final accounts without\nunnecessary delay. The different types of branches are dependent or independent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRANCHES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">DEPENDENT BRANCHES<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Dependent branch is a branch which does not maintain its own\nset of books. All records have to be maintained by the head office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FEATURES OF DEPENDENT BRANCHES<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>DOES NOT MAINTAIN OWN SET OF BOOKS: <\/strong>The dependent branch does not maintain its own set of books. The Head Office maintains a record of all the transactions. The branch only maintains a Debtor\u2019s Ledger and a Stock Ledger. The Debtor\u2019s ledger is maintained to find out the money due from debtors of the branch is authorized to sell goods on credit. The stock ledger is maintained to get information regarding the movement of the goods received from the head office and the balance of stock in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>SUPPLY OF GOODS FROM HEAD OFFICE ONLY:<\/strong> Generally, all the goods are supplied to the branch by the Head Office. Sometimes the branch may be allowed to make purchases from the local parties for which the payment is made by the Head Office directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>REMITTANCE OF RECEIPTS TO HEAD OFFICE: <\/strong>Cash received from the branch from its debtors on account of cash sales, is daily remitted to the head office. An account of head office is opened in a local bank where all the cash collections are deposited by the branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>REMITTANCES OF EXPENSES: <\/strong>All the expenses of the branch are directly financed by the Head Office through cheques or cash. The branch submits the summary to the head office for payments to be made by it during a particular period in respect of Branch expenses. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>MAINTENANCE OF PETTY CASH BOOK: <\/strong>The branch is authorized to make a petty cash book either a simple book or on imprest system. For this, the cash is supplied by the head office periodically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>METHODS TO MAINTAIN ACCOUNTS:<\/strong> For dependent branches, the accounts are maintained in any of the following ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Branch Account System or Debtors System<\/li><li>Stock and Debtors System<\/li><li>Final Accounts System<\/li><li>Wholesale Branch<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">INDEPENDENT BRANCHES<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">An independent branch is a branch which can make purchases\nat its own and maintain the whole set of books of accounts. These branches\npurchase goods from other suppliers for sale. At the end of the year, the trial\nbalance is made and sent to the head office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FEATURES OF INDEPENDENT BRANCHES<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>INDEPENDENT TRADING: <\/strong>Independent branches are authorized to independent trading. These branches make purchases at its own and make sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>OWN SET OF BOOKS ARE MAINTAINED: <\/strong>The independent branches make their own set of books. The books are kept on the double entry system. The journal, ledger, subsidiary books are maintained of each branch separately. At the end of the year, only the trial balance prepared is sent to the head office to make the consolidated accounts of whole business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>MAINTENANCE OF BRANCH ACCOUNT:<\/strong> In case of Independent Branches, the branch account is opened. This account is debited with the cash or goods sent to branch. It will get credit when cash is received by the head office from the branch. It is maintained like personal account and it indicates the amount due by the branch to the head office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>MAINTENANCE OF HEAD OFFICE ACCOUNT: <\/strong>In the books of the branch, the \u2018Head Office Account\u2019. This account is debited with the amount remitted by the branch to the head office and get credited in respect of goods received by the branch from the head office, cash received and expenses paid by the head office on behalf of the branch. This method is generally adopted when the goods are\ndispatched to the branch at the selling price which the branch is not\nauthorized to vary. Under this method, the following accounts are opened:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BRANCH ASSETS ACCOUNT:<\/strong> Individual assets accounts are opened for each kind of asset. Example: branch cash account, branch debtors\u2019 account, branch furniture account etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BRANCH EXPENSES ACCOUNT: <\/strong>This account is debited with all the expenses of the branch like rent, salaries, advertisement etc. this account is closed by transferring to the branch adjustment account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BRANCH STOCK ACCOUNT:<\/strong> This account is prepared to find out the surplus or shortage of stock at the branch. This account is featured as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>This account is prepared at invoice price.<\/li><li>Opening stock is posted at the debit side of\nthis account.<\/li><li>Goods sent to branch is also recorded at the\ndebit side of this account.<\/li><li>Goods returned to head office and closing stock\nis shown at the credit side of this account.<\/li><li>The excess of debit over credit is shortage.<\/li><li>The excess of credit over debit is surplus.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BRANCH ADJUSTMENT ACCOUNT:<\/strong> This account has two parts. The first part is prepared like Trading Account.
