BURGESS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe fundamental gospel of statistics is to push back the\ndomain of ignorance, prejudice, rule of thumb, arbitrary or premature\ndecisions, traditions and dogmatism and to increase the domain in which decisions\nare made and principles are formulated on the basis of analyzed quantitative\nfacts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">One of the functions of statistics is presentation of facts in definite form. Statistics helps in presenting the complex facts in definite form to the users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Statistics makes use of various analysis techniques to\npresent the collected data in the useful and definite form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>EXAMPLE:<\/strong> Suppose the statement is \u2018Population of India is increasing day by day\u2019, this statement is not statistics and does not convey any definite meaning. However with the help of the statistics collected we can say that \u2018Population of India has increased from 102 crore in 2001 to 121 crore in 2011\u2019. This statement is conveying the definite meaning about the rise of population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"statistics-present-the-complex-data-in-easy-form\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"STATISTICS_PRESENT_THE_COMPLEX_DATA_IN_EASY_FORM\"><\/span>STATISTICS PRESENT THE COMPLEX DATA IN EASY FORM <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Statistics is also associated with the organisation and\nclassification of the data. This is done to remove all the inconsistencies,\nirregularities out of the data and to give a clear view of the whole data. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-medium-font-size\"><strong>ACCORDING TO A E WAUGH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe purpose of statistical methods is to simplify great\nbodies of numerical data.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The presentation of the data in the forms of graphs, charts,\ntables, diagrams, pie charts and bar graphs etc. make the data available in\neasy and understandable form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>EXAMPLE:<\/strong> It is impossible to present data about the income of every person of India but with the help of Statistics, incomes of all persons can be presented as \u2018PER CAPITA INCOME.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"helpful-in-comparisons\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HELPFUL_IN_COMPARISONS\"><\/span>HELPFUL IN COMPARISONS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"> One of the functions of statistics is presentation f facts in definite form making the comparisons. The simplified data is compared with another set of data to give meaningful results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-pale-cyan-blue-background-color has-background has-medium-font-size\"><strong>ACCORDING TO BODDINGTON<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThe object of statistics is to enable comparison to be made\nbetween past and present results with a view to ascertaining the reasons for\nchanges which have been taken place and the effect of such changes in the\nfuture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Statistics facilitates inter-temporal, international comparisons\nas well as many other&nbsp; comparisons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>EXAMPLE:<\/strong> The growth and progress rate of Indian Economy from the date of independence to present times is an example of Inter-temporal comparison. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The rate of unemployment in Indian economy as compared to\nUSA economy is a kind of international comparison.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"helpful-in-analysis-of-data\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"HELPFUL_IN_ANALYSIS_OF_DATA\"><\/span>HELPFUL IN ANALYSIS OF DATA<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Statistics is helpful in the analysis of numerical data. A researcher may formulate the hypothesis on the basis of\nthe observation. So, statistics helps in\npolicy formulation. All statistical techniques are helpful in prediction of future\ntrends.
